I usually get the teacher aides a gift at Christmas and then at the end of the year. My questions is:
Should I give the Teacher Aides a gift everytime I give the teacher a gift?
Every once in awhile I also bake something for their teachers and also send enough in for their "special" teachers. If I
continue to do this once a month teacher gift should I also include their special teachers as well as their teacher aides?
Thanks everyone for your help.
BTW, they have about 4-5 Special Teachers (gym, art, speech, reading, etc., these type of teachers).
Answers:
I am a teacher assistant. As a rule, teacher aides are just as involved daily with your children and their education as the teachers. Often, the children will see them as a team - one unit. If you are going to give a gift once a month, I believe that the aides are also very important.
As to special teachers, depending on how that school system works, your children only sees them once a week. While these teachers are very important, your children are in their classes about 4 times a month. I would maybe do the end of the year gift, but every month might be a bit much. If they have a particular special teacher (reading, etc) that they see more frequently, you can gift depending on time spent and frequency of classes.
In the end, it depends on how much you think each of these people is doing for your children.
I hope this helps!
It's a lot, but I've read teachers appreciate gift certificates more. As in certificates for school supplies (Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc.), because they pour so much of their own money into making sure their students have enough.
Or, they appreciate things that allow them to relax, ie a gift certificate to a spa or something similar. Gifts to the aides are probably not required, but it's nice. You can always get them something a little smaller as a token gift.
Be careful though, because this can also be construed as trying to garner favors from the teacher.
I think that is a wonderful way to say thank you for all you do. I would think it could get quite expensive to buy for the teacher, the aides and the special teachers. Why not just give a monthly gift card from somewhere so they can purchase items they may need in class. This way everyone benefits and it's easier on you. I know the teachers here where I am have to purchase a lot of supplies out of their own pockets all year long plus they could use the gift cards to help children that may not be to afford any school supplies.
I am a teacher and one of the most appreciated gifts I ever got was free school lunch--is not real expensive and made me smile that day. Our school gives us lunch for under $2 a day. A car wash token is another nice surprise and inexpensive. I am sure whatever you give is truly appreciated and remembered because hardly anyone ever does that. It is nice to give the special areas teachers something once a year as well as aides. Even a special cookie with their name on it will bring a big smile. They get even fewer perks than the regular teachers. You are a gem to even think of your child's teachers. The idea of being appreciated is worth much more than the gift itself. Thanks for caring and taking the time to let your lucky teachers know.
