The high school was closed because of a continual decrease in population in the Joliet area in the 70's and 80's. Major employers had shut down during this era. It cost too much to keep the building open for the relatively small number of students it was serving during this time. The building was sold and this move helped the district financially. They now have land (and population) to build a new high school. People have complained that they should have kept east, but that would have been very costly.
