Hey...I was a sophomore last year, and I clearly understand what you're going through. I never made fun of anyone last year, but some sophomores DID make fun of freshman. They think that just because they're not the youngest in the school, they get to show it off and make fun of people who are now the youngest.the freshman. It's really stupid, and I know that juniors and seniors don't do it as much, because they're used to not being the youngest, but they're also somewhat mature compared to their sophomore peers. (but keep in mind, that some sophomore's are REALLY nice)
But to make more friends, just be yourself. So what if you're a freshman? Take pride in it! is there someone next to you that doesn't seem to be a freshman-hater? Then talk to him/her! Just talk to anyone who seems nice, and just be friendly. Don't be afraid, a lot of upperclassman can be really nice and helpful. And usually, people tend to ignore anyone that doesn't seem friendly (I've noticed it) So smile, and be happy. A lot of people will like you. So bottom line is...be yourself! =]

They're just doing what was done to them, so think of it as near-harmless hazing (though it can cause stress and frustration). After a while, hopefully they will show some of their maturity and include you in their conversations. Don't let the first day get you down. I had good friends in the grade ahead of me and 2 grades ahead of me when i was in high school, so hopefully they can see you for who you are, and not be the label of "freshman".
I was one of 3 freshman in one of my advanced math classes, and there were juniors and seniors in the class... they ignored us at first and were d!cks for a while. Then they realized that we were in the class because we were smart so they started asking us questions, and we helped some of them out.
First of all, sophomores aren't really upperclassmen, so don't let them tell you otherwise.
The reason that they pick on freshmen is they now feel that they have a bit of status, but don't know how to handle it yet. Just give them time and don't act that way yourself next year.
Sophomores were freshman the year before. Most likely they're treating you the way their Sophomores treated them when they were freshmen. Its just a never ending cycle of mediocre revenge or payback.
You have some crazy Sophomores. Probably because Sophomores had just gotten out of being freshmen and don't want to associate with them too much. I never had that view at all...I didn't care much and don't care this year that I am going to be in a predominantly freshman class due to /my/ scheduling conflict.
because they think they're better because they're older, they'll get over it in a few weeks, just ignore them if they give you crap, it worked for me, now that im a sophomore and they're juniors, i get along with them fine...
Today was my first actual full schedule day of school and my freshman year. I have Honors English but my school has all grades seperated if possible. Everyone in my Honors English class is people i know or in my grade. In French III I have my friends from previous school and im comfortable. There are some sophmore's in my french 3 class but they don't treat me different but probably cus we dont interact lol.
Some sophmore's are rude and they were treated bad the year before so their just giving back how they were treated just ignore and try to make friends with ones that aren't mean.

well i'm a sophmore and i don't see what people get out of bothering the freshmen, but i do have friends who do it so i think i can answer ur question. they just want to do the same thing that was then to them to the new freshmens u really don't have to worry about (trust me i was in ur shoes) in a couple days the people from band class will get over it when i first went to high school not many upperclassmen talked to me but i just waited a little and ended up with an amazing upperclassmen friend.
ok so I'm a sophomore... there are tons of immature people in my grade that have nothing better to do then "pick on the little baby freshman" and its so weird cause you guys are only a year younger than us! Its might be because they were picked on once too. Plus its the on-going HS joke. ways to trick/fool/make fun of the little freshman. Dont worry about it in a week they'll completely forget about you.
Band: Ok sorry to say but not everyone in band will like you because you have what they call "freshman disease" lol. However I know theyre must be some nice sophomores it will just take a couple of days to find them. I have tons of freshies in my class and just act as if I normally would.
Oh and its just sophomores. The juniors don't really care about you and the seniors well lets just say theyre only focused on graduation/college.
Its also the first day. sophomores hate freshman because you get in our ways in the halls and it just annoys us because you don't know your way around yet. Once you get into the swing of things like in a week or 2 everything should fine.

They are acting like big shots because they were just freshmen themselves last year. It makes them feel big and important. Don't let it bother you. Soon you will make friends and feel comfortable.
And remember how it feels and don't treat freshmen bad when you are a sophomore next year.
I'm in the band too and I remember my first day as a freshman two years ago. Freshman in the band got blamed for everything there was even a lake named after us called freshman lake where upperclassmen dumped freshman into the lake which is now called freshman puddle. Don't feel bad the upper class men don't like freshmen just because you guys are new and don't know anything yet. There is not really that much you can do except try to be friendly to other people. At the end of the year you will be sick of being called freshmen.
