What is a charter school?

Question:Ok the school my son is going to is called St Marks charter school what does that mean ?i feel really stup cuz i dont know please help me thanks!

Answers:
Charter schools are publicly funded! (So they are public schools!) They are privately started usually by some group. (How a charter school is established varies by county/state) Typically the schools have special, unique focus/goals unlike public schools.

I went to a charter school in Minnesota for middle school. It was started by a women who wanted to have a smaller community of students from different backgrounds/skills learn together. Since it is does not have to follow the traditional rules of a public school it was a little different... We had uniforms, different starting times, etc.

I'd check out their website for my information:

Good luck! I hope you and your son have lots of fun!
