by DBQ, I assume you mean Document Based Question, such as for the AP US History exam.
First, before you even look at the documents, write out things you know about the question. Just jot down anything and everything that comes to your mind. then, and ONLY then, look through the documents quickly. this is because once you read the documents, your thinking is guided in a specific direction. so if you already have something down, you have more information than you would have if you read and then brainstormed.
after reading documents, look over your brainstorm and see what thesis to make. then, divide the thesis into a couple of points. fit a few documents and facts you have brainstormed into each point. then, write quickly and neatly but coherently.
good luck! remember to leave about 3 minutes to edit at the end.
