For the first day a notebook, paper, pens, and pencils will do. Teachers usually send home individual lists and specify what to bring the first day/week. So just stick with the basics until you get what they want.
Backpack, about 6-8 notebooks, pens, pencils, folders, binders, papers, and erasers. Thats basically it, I guess.
