Send her to french class!! I learned my second language in 2nd grade. The younger the kid, the better. They learn faster and grasp more information than when they're adults. Take advantage of this opportunity
Not at all! It would be great for her to learn a third language at this young age! Some research shows that younger children are more easily able to learn languages. If she is motivated to learn and you have access to a good program or teacher, that would be great!!
No, I think it's great she wants to learn French and why not do it at a young age so she has all the time she needs to learn it? I think that's a great idea.
My daughters speak Spanish and Japanese at home and we're English speaking. My oldest took French in first and second grade and will completing another year this school year. These days, there's nothing wrong with having your children know as many languages as possible. By the time they come out of high school, they'll be able to travel the world and speak the language.
Somewhat, because most schools, including mine, have language classes in 6th grade for free at school. So you could pay, or wait a few more years.
It has been proven that the younger they are the better it is for them to learn a different language. If this is something that you can do, do it. Don't wait let her learn while she is little.
Younger people have a greater capacity for learning foreign languages. If she were to take on French now she would benefit far more greatly (given she is a serious student, which I assume she is since she'd like to learn French) than if she picked it up in high school. Learning languages is always great exercise for the brain and provides extra opportunities for building discipline and positive study habits. Not to mention that it may be beneficial in the future if she maintains her studies to fluency.
If she wants to do it, by all means give her the opportunity. It's been medically proven that young children learn languages very quickly, it has to do with how their brains process information. She's actually "wired" to learn languages right now.
Even though she'll need different instruction on it as she gets older (grammatical rules, spelling, etc.), this will give her an excellent foundation, and she'll find her higher level courses make much more sense because of it.
My son is 9, and is learning his 4th language (English, Spanish, Latin, now Greek)...he is now starting to see the patterns in grammar and usage between the languages, and is finding languages much easier to learn as time goes on. Obviously he'll take higher level classes in them as he gets older, but he has a good working knowledge of each now. I completely recommend giving her whatever language opportunities she's up for now, while she's young.
