It's really hard to say because even if your SAT's are not awesome (they're really NOT terrible), you may be able to "make up" for them in some other part of your application -- GPA, essay, extracurriculars, whatever!
What schools are you interested in? I'd recommend going to

and comparing your stats there. Just type in the college you're interested in, and you should be able to seem some info on average SAT's for incoming freshmen...things like that.

it depends what your distribution is
critical reading and math are usually more important b/c the writing section is so new
you may want to look at "state" schools
there are lots of good state schools (depending on where you live) that have more lenient admissions standards for in-state students than for out-of-state applicants
