Why can't School be run like a 9-5 job, Monday through Friday with a two week yearly(Summer) vacation?

Question:I think it would prepare kids how the real world works, get them through school faster by having a year-round education and eliminate(For some parents ) the "Latch-key child"All Academic (Math, Science, History, etc, Monday through Friday. Extra curricular activities ( Phys.ed. Band etc., if the parent/child choose to(at their expense) ;can be done on weekends, and Eliminate all (Just- to -get -a -three- day- weekend -holidays) have a 1 Week winter break in Winter , 2 weeks in Summer. I think having a more regimented schedule will make families stronger and Parents should be given preferencial treatment to the 9a-5p mon-Fri jobs so the whole family can be together after school and work. Kids would be supervised and not have time to get into gangs, drugs, or other unsavory predicaments. I see so much lax in the current U.S system and when a high School Graduate(living in Wa. State all her life) asks me "Do I live in Washington State or Washington D.C ?" it is time to buckle down

Answers:
yeah i think you're right. i mean it's so hard keeping up with parents away from 9-5 and kids away from like 7-2 or whatever. so kids are home alone for a while and the parents waste money on babysitters and stuff. also i hear it's a hard transition into the working world..
In Europe, school sessions are Mon -Sat and in session all year round!
with winter, summer,spring breaks!
Let me know when you plan to run for President and I will vote for you.
The teachers union is the main reason. I am not against unions but this union needs to change. there is nothing worse than a whinny teacher who thinks the world owes them 3 months off in the summer
Because children are children, they are not adults and people in the educational system obviously agree with this. Children should be given breaks. They don't deserve to be bogged down with homework and projects all year around. Anyway, if they did eliminate summer vacation kids would be younger when they graduated. Having a 13 year old graduate high school? That's a little far fetched. Obviously, you disagree with the educational system but it is used for a reason. You turned out fine didn't you? Didn't you get summer breaks and useless 3-day-weekends?
Gosh I would be burnt out. Plus kids just want time to have fun and not have to worry about work or anything before they have to spend the rest of their lives working. Plus less vacation time means less time to decide what they want to do with their lives or test out summer jobs and slowly ease themselves into the work system. And year round schooling means more kids will start skipping school more often and all the druggies will be bringing their drugs to school and start smoking more at school, it won't solve anything.
Lets see, the average high schooler has three hours of homework a night, plus jobs, plus extra curricular activities. You would be getting done with homework and activities around 11ish? That's why students go to school at the time they do.
That would be the worst thing ever. Do you know how stressed nowdays high schools are? Students get up at 6 and does not go to bed at least until 11. It's not because we were watching TV, its' because of all the things that we have to do and all the homework. With work you don't get homework. Summer is a good tiem for me to relax and od fun things.
