The problem is, I hear our school's AP Stats teacher is really bad at teaching. I hear the class is so bad, that students have to REALLY cram before the AP exam or something. Those who passed the class say that they didn't like it.
I want to take something other than Cal. However, AP Stats is the only other option I have besides Higher Level Math. I don't know how our Stats teacher's lack of teaching skills will affect me, since I learn stuff better mostly by reading textbooks--not by listening to class lectures.
What can I expect in AP Stats under these conditions?

I took AP stats during my sophomore year in high school. I took regular stats the semester before (we had block scheduling) and in the spring I took AP stats. The hard part was that we didn't have a regular class. We met after school once a week for 7 weeks for an hour. So we basically taught ourselves. It's not impossible to pass the AP test this way. I did. Just make sure you study and understand the material. It also can help to understand some of what the teacher is saying since they are the ones who will test you before you take the AP test.
If you know stats fairly well and can learn by reading the book you should be fine. You're definitely right about calc being hard...you'll be much better off in stats, it's easier and more fun! (well as fun as math can be anyway!) As far as the AP test is concerned, you should be okay as long as you keep up on the material, and make sure that you cover anything that your teacher might now have covered in class. I also had a really crappy AP Stats teacher and I still did really well, and did really well on the AP exam. (of course that was almost 10 years ago...)

from what i have heard, it is not that bad.. many ppl i know have self studied that course and crammed it during the month before the test and have earned 5s. however, if i were you, i would just stick with calc BC.. it is better and you can just self study stats and get credit anyways... hope this helped, good luck.
AP stats isn't that hard. It's pretty easy to understand just by reading the book. It's not very difficult math at all, mostly analytical stuff, so if you're worried about your math skills, AP stats is deffinatly a better class than AP calc.
