Should caning be brought back into the current school system ???

Question:caning was withdrawn from the system not so many years ago and do you think kids nowadays would be able to handle it ???

Answers:
Absolutely not! I have taught in our public schools for 32 years ( middle school age children) and have never had to resort to corporal punishmnet of any sort- yet I am known as a very strict teacher and an excellent disciplinarian. ( I never used it with my own children either and they are well-behaved teenagers and young adults). The key to maintaining discipline in schools or elsewhere is to earn respect. With children of any age this involves establishing expectations, being fair in your punishments, and most important CONSISTENCY.I believe this is where most parents and teachers start losing control. Children - and adults - have to know that there are definite consequences and the same consequences will be applied each and every time. In other words, it doesn't matter if the teacher is in a good mood or you are one of her favorites, the consequences for breaking a rule will always be the same and will be the same for everyone. Using physical force for discipline teaches the child that the way to deal with conflict and resolve problems is to lash out - especially if you are the bigger or more powerful of the two people involved. If they learn this at school - why not apply it to their own lives outside of school? Little brother does something you don't like so you hit him. Or later in life your spouse and you are arguing - what better way to show him or her who's boss? How much sense does it make to take two kids who are fighting on the playground - lecture them about why hitting is wrong - then tell them to bend over so you can paddle them? I'm sorry to all your parents out there who still use spanking - but it is really the lazy person's way out. It takes much more thought and creativity to use alternative methods that are more effective.

My frank opinion is that boys and girls have to be disciplined for a better society. This has to start from school, I mean first standard onwards. If cane is a way to bring about discipline I'm in for it. Here I presume that the people who use the cane too are sensible, responsible and careful about it, because they should always keep in mind that they are developing the future of our society. The responsibility and challenge lies on the teachers to make the cane a symbol of discipline and not hatred.

I am not sure if the caning is the solution but young people need to be disciplined because they are going out control and behaving unexpectedly out of order.

I'm A child my self ,but I do think some of my classmates could use some disipline.when I see the way some kids act,I wonder do they have parents to enforce rules?I epecially hate when some "black people" make themselves look bad and their language seems as it is on a first grade level.Me, being black I am very smart and in the IB program and gifted classes at my highschool,so I know that African Americans are very capable of improving their vocabulary.I know I might have gotten off subject,I think bringing caning back in schools will help children remember that no matter what society thinks of you have to prove them wrong. With me being only a freshman,I find it very hard to get proper respect, and teachers definently don't get respect;I think kids including myself even, need more disipline.

we have canning in the school system of Singapore and we turned out ok. Canning should be used as a last resort and not givenout so easily. it should be something like the equivalent to the state's capital punishment. the Fear of being canned keeps the kids in check although there are some who think that canning is nothing and would still break the rules...
