First Year in High School?

Question:I'm going to be a sophomore this year (which is my first year in high school because my freshmany year is done in junior high), and I'm starting to get pretty nervous, what can I do to help ease my tensions and find my way around this large and confusing school?

Answers:
Well in high school, things are a lot bigger. Like the students, teachers, and buildings. You also get more homework than junior high but don't let that get you down. Millions of students like you are entering high school for the first time. And it can be scary. But just relax. Just be yourself and you can make some life-long friendships. You can make some friends by joining in some after school clubs and sports. And also just by talking to the person beside of you. You can compliment on something they have to strike up a conversation. Also, in high school, you know you have more homework than junior high. So be prepared to do that. Be organized and don't procrastinate. Doing that will make you feel behind in your classes and you can't catch up. Just pay attention to your teacher's lectures, take good notes, and do your homework first before crashing onto the computer. Have a schedule with you or a to-do list. Prioritized your things and tackle big assignments one at a time. And have some fun too. High school is one of the best years of your life. Make it like that and you will enjoy high school.

When I was a sophomore last year, I was scared too. I was the shortest person in my high school. But I got used it and now, I'm used to being around taller people.

good luck!
go early before school starts with your mom friends or who ever and just walk though your schedule so in the crowed halls you know where to go and when. set up your locker so its easy to get stuff fast in between classes. color code your stuff? just have fun with it. its not that bad. just like dont sit where the seniors sit at lunch or anything stick with your friends follow the other somp and youll be fine!
My school offers new people a chance to go to school a day early without the freaky upperclassmen around.
Also, they do a scavenger hunt. But this is middle school. And I'll be a freaky upperclassman! o.0

You could schedule a tour, but you can always ask for a map. Teachers won't expect you to be on time the first day. That's just unreasonable.
Stick with a friend... that has the same schedule as you. Also you can pick a certain route around. It may help. Good Luck and I think you're really going to enjoy yourself.
What my school does is get Juniors and Seniors to become 'Link Leaders' which show you around school and help you out and such with the adjusting.

So my best bet would be to get 'adopted' by an upperclassmen as their underclassmen.

At my school, almost every Junior has their own little Frosh that they adopt and take under their wing...Can't wait to get mine! (will be a Junior this year) If need be, you can always talk to teachers, and counselors. They're there to help you.

Killing you with the mind-numbing homework is just a hobby.
Were are you From?the only place i think of that dose that is japans school system.Dont worrie just study and listen in class, ask questions when stuck, and you will pass high school easly.Good luck, also dont let no drama get in your way.
When I started at high school we got a map of the school. I marked all my classes on the map. That took care of getting around.

All your friends from jr. high will be there, so it's a mixture of old and new. And, really, it's just more school; you've been doing that for years now, right?

It's an opportunity to meet new friends and have new experiences. Have fun; your high school years will last as memories the rest of your life.
well being neervouse is very normal lol i was nervouse as hell and ALMOST ALL MY FRIENDS WERE GOINGT O THE SAME HIGHSCHOOL!... so, any chance u get walk through the school, i know here in canada most of the high schools have orientationsabout a week or 2 prior to school starting so maybe yours does too... if so I would suggest u go to it meet ppl..its a very scaryu time in ur life, but in the same way its the best time of ur life... high school goes really quick and when ur done ur gunna be so damn proud of yourself... just remember its harder than elemntry school n junior high, so aplly yoursself the best u can, put ur academics before ur social life...if u need help ask!.. if your courses are too challenging for u afetr the first month talk to yuo guidance councillor to switch to an easier level of course.good luck,,, if u EVER wana chat feel free to add me to your yahoo messanger.
