Ok you don't have to try at all. You could be outgoing, but not wierd. Like don't get up in people's faces. Just try to settle in everywhere and be nice to everyone.
Be loud, funny, and outgoing. Of all the schools I have been to they all have those traits. I have even seen poor and smelly kids be popular with that.
Just be yourself, be accepting of all people, so maybe you dont hang out with the " popular" group, but if you open your self up to a more diverse group of people then you will be over all more popular.

Being popular isn't that important. If you have friends they should be your friend for who you are and not if your popular.
