i call it middle school.
but either.
it's called the worst couple years of your life
seventh and eighth grade?
They don't have any special names...
I say middle school when both mean the exact same thing.
Jr. High when I went..
What it is called depends on where you live.
in MOST places, K-5th grade is called elementary school, 6th-8th grade is called middle school, and 9th-12th grade is called highschool.
But where I live, K-6th grade is called elementary school, 7th-9th is called Jr High, and 10th-12th is called highschool
So what you're 7th and 8th grade years are called depends on where you live.
middle school is 1-6th grade, and Jr. High is 7th & 8th.
hope i helped,
have fun!
Middle School
it's middle school and jr high
jr. high, middle school is a stupid name for it
It was JR high way back when i was in school, but now it is referred to as middle school. Some middle schools also include the 6th grade as well as 7th and 8th grades.
we call it middle school, but it could be either
I vote "Junior High". ...at least that what I called it quite a few years ago! I confess though, I believe in the 21st Century it is referred to as "Middle School".
Where i grew up it was Junior High, where my children grew up it was called Middle School...it is a geographical thing I think. UP north it's junior high, in the south middle school.
Middle school is an old term. I heard that in the 80's. I attended middle school. I was the last year to attend middle school in my town in 1985. It switched over to Jr. High in 1986. 9th grade now was in high school. so middle school was gone now it is called Jr. high.
Jr. High is more modern. Grades 6-7-8
Middle is older. Grades 7-8-9
sevies and the top of the food chain, no jk but they are called both it depends on where you live.
Historically it's been called Jr. High, but a while back when they started adding 6th graders to those school sites, they began to call it middle school.
So today we use the terms interchangeably, to mean any school that has students in 6th, 7th or 8th grades, in any combination.
I think it depends how your distract addresses them :] We call it Middle School here.
7th and 8th grade can be considered either jr. high or middle school, depending on the middle school.
For example, George Washington Jr. High School. or Abraham Lincoln Middle school, etc. (i just made those up).
People in general look at jr.high and middle school as the same thing. "Are you in jr.high" or "Are you in middle school" mean the same thing.
I'm pretty sure both of them are usually 6th-8th, or sometimes 5th-8th grade.
Hope that helps!! :-)
Seventh and Eighth grades are also known as "Junior High School," or "Middle School." Some districts include sixth grade with seventh and eighth at their "Junior Highs", or "Middle School" buildings. If Seventh and eigth grades are not housed in a separate building, or attached to the high school building, they are still considered part of elementary school, rather than the secondary school -which is also known as "high school" (grades nine through twelve). Generally speaking though, Middle School/Junior High School age students are considered secondary students, rather than elemenatary students. Also, elementary teacher licences vary from state to state. Some states require a separate Middle-School licensure program to teach grades 7-8, while others include grades 7-8 with either their Elementary Licence, and/or their Secondary Licence.
The terms "Junior High" and "Middle School" themselves are political. Some districts use one and some the other. The main difference is thought to be a view of the students themselves. Proponents of the "Middle School" term claim to think of these students as being more unique and separate from high school- age students with their own specific, identifiable academic and social developmental stages and needs, whereas the term "Junior High" suggests they are more like mini-versions of high schoolers- and the building is run as such. However, I have worked at "Junior Highs" that operated with Middle School Philosophy, and vice versa, so you can't simply tell just by the term of the building itself. An older school may have been termed a "Junior High" but have administration and staff trained and running the building under Middle School philosophy.
