I have taught Middle and High school
The brain of a person is only complete at about 21 years of age.
Middle schoolers, specially 7th graders, are going through a lot of changes and they just do not know how to handle all that adrenaline.
Once I had a female student that would come hyper to my math class. I could feel that she was a very smart kid, but her behavior was getting in the way of her learning.
I called her aside and asked her if she would like to run in hall for about 2 minutes at the beginning of my class and she smile at me and said yes.
She did all the running she could in the allotted time, came back to class and behaved wonderfully. she finished my class with an A.
9th Graders are at lost as well. 10th, 11th and 12th graders are more mature an can understand better that for knowledge to take place they have to pay attention to the lesson.
I love middle schoolers the best because the need to learn not just math but social skills as well, and I am there for them.
they tend to be less mature
They are teenagers. Stuck between still being a child and becoming an adult. Middle School is the hardest time for kids, as they're trying to find their way in life. And since kids mature bodily faster nowadays, throw in raging hormones.
They are immature and still a few years away from being young adults. So they can still go with the notion that because of their age they don't no any better.
They haven't matured yet. Middle school is the transition from elementary to high school so kids are figuring out who they are and what cliques they belong in, plus i would say its the worst stage of puberty so it sux for everyone!
