it's not necessary but if you have a quote that fits, you should definitely use it. but only if it fits perfectly. i've found that if you write a narrative essay where you introduce everything first and give background info, or if you put your two sense in afterwards, that those are the places to add a quote. if you're really not sure, i would advise not putting one in because unless you're careful it disrupts the flow of the story.
however if you're writing any other type of essays i've found that if you include a quote, your grade usually goes up.

Are you talking about using quotation marks, or using a quote from a famous person in a narrative? If you have dialogue in your narrative, you will absolutely need quotation marks. If you are just writing a stream of conscious about something from your perspective, then probably not. But if you have dialogue between two people in the narrative, the reader can't figure out who is speaking without the quotation marks. As for using a famous quotation from someone in a narrative...I think that's personal choice.
according to me quotations r necessary in n easy coz thy would highlight the central theme .You know .In essay we can use a quote as thy can explain a whole para .if u know a quote related to the topic u can jot down the main points??~.quotes Can make ur answer look attractive n if the quotes matches the topic perfectly then it wll be givn the max marks.
