Can anyone serve me interpret this quote by James Baldwin?

"The root function of language is to control the universe by describing it." I only need somewhat help expanding my scholarship of what this quote means. Does anyone hold any ideas? Any examples?

Answers:    The statement is incorrect. The root function of vernacular is for communication between people. Being competent to describe the universe does not give one control of it. The universe may control individuals. But people will never control the universe through any money. So Mr. Baldwin is mistaken.
One can use different words to describe the same intention or feeling. For example one can be "eccentric" (good) or "crazy" (bad).
The universe is a big higgledy-piggledy place. By labeling things with words we can place things surrounded by an order or ranking.
