"To be great is to be misunderstood"
Answers:
Usually the ppl that are misunderstood are the ones with great and bright ideas.
Cause when you are a master at confusing people, you are great. Mind games I guess
because in history, the great geniuses were always those who were misunderstood, chastized and cast out. Only years and years later where their ideas and great theories recognized to be brilliant. People who think outside the box generally tend to be looked at with contempt and suspicion.
i think it means dont strive to be the same. the greatest things in life are the ones we discover. its nice to be mysterious.
Look at some of the crazy inventors in the past, that should explain your saying. Misunderstood, no. From a square to a wheel, the mind works wonders, you just have to listen to it...
I agree with everybody else
it means that most people who are misunderstood are people who have great ideas. which in a way makes them great. hope i helped!
I agree with what others have written about the "great ones" in history being those that think outside the norm, but I think it's more than that - to be truly great I think you need to be okay with the fact that people don't understand you and to stand by your convictions.
The common masses are not great, they are ordinary (pretty much by definition) and so typically won't understand greatness and usually will misunderstand it.
What is the average IQ? It is 100, by definition of the IQ scales. So do you think a person with IQ of 100 is going to fully understand a paper on economic theory by someone with an IQ of 190?
The makeup of greatness is achieving and accomplishing certain feats that an ordinary person would be unable to do. If everyone was able to understand certain aspects of life then no one would ever stand out based on their knowledge because everyone would have a great deal of it (knowledge) However, when you are able to achieve something than the average person or society is unable to achieve, then you are not only considered to be great—but misunderstood as well because no one is able to easily comprehend what you are accomplishing. Nice quote by the way.
If your misunderstood then your brain is moving faster and in a faster pace then most which leads you to be great with ideas that most people wont think of or come up with til days months or even years later!
It has to do with true genius and changing the world.
Examples:
Einstein flunked a grade school grade. Was he not a genius? He was bored with what they were trying to teach.
Galileo tried to explain the motions of the stars by placing the sun at the center of the universe (instead of the earth). Had he not have recanted, he'd have been burned at the stake as a heretic.
Jesus was another man misunderstood in his time. Yes, He was also God. But, he turned the Judean world upside down. One example is kicking the moneylenders out of temple. This really has to do with the fact that the priests would not accept Roman coins as offerings. Roman coins were the coin of the realm, it's what everyone was paid with. So, some money exchangers set up camp right outside the temple..and made a good profit by exchanging Roman coins into Hebrew money. This was sanctioned by the priests who also got a cut.
This act isn't really explained well in the bible..but put into context it can make sense.
what does affair aplenty means?
Because when you're great, everybody has an opinon about you or your thoughts or whatever you're "great" at.
And before the greatness, misunderstood is another way of saying, "ridiculed, disaproved, Mocked" .
so greatness is a form of uniqueness, and being unique usually gets it criticism. Until it becomes recgonized, praised, and that uniqueness is now great...
If everyone gets what you're saying then anyone who gets it could have said it. great people are always ahead of their time. They are the catalyst for progress. You have to be ahead of your time to make the future happen.
