Well, there has to be a certain level of physical attraction between two people in order to proceed but to say beauty is more important? That's ridiculous.
To me someone who has a level head on their shoulders and can think for themselves is much more appealing than someone who has the looks, but has the brain of monkey to go along with it.
Actually, the proverb says the opposite: beauty doesn't matter, with empty brains. I agree. Beauty is good for two things: 1) models and 2) attracting a mate. Before & after that, brains are all-important!

How you present yourself is very important in society. If you are unkempt and wear wrinkled clothing, you will be taken less seriously regardless of your intelligence level. The same goes if you dress in clothes that are too revealing.
I am not saying that beauty is more important than intelligence, but dressing well and being well-groomed do help you project that intelligence better.
