I felt that to me that possessions can have you try and get more possession, so you lose contact with the real "possessions", which are people and friendship
the quality of owning something, say a car, makes it yours. I bought this car. It's mine.

It's just another way of addressing something possessive or maybe it's forshadowing some of the obessessions of the Joads. Man I spelled "obsessions" wrong. hahaha. sorry bout' that.

Grapes of wrath is a great novel!
When people share and bond into a unified group, there is strength and power. When one person stands alone, he/she is isolated and has less power and nocamaraderie.
Once you own something, you want to make sure that it stays yours. This causes selfishness, especially when times are tough economically. The Grapes of Wrath is set during the great depression, and the people who have money and land are afraid the poorer people will eventually try to take their things away from them out of desparation. The poorer people consider themselves a "we" because they all help each other as best they can, since they have nothing to lose.
dont be greedy
The word "I" implies that a person is self-centered and the self-absorption will make your life stand still and go nowhere. You are stagnant. Material things that are dwelled upon makes you selfish and does not give to others whether it is material , spiritual or with an open heart and mind. All are meant to be shared.
We, on the other hand, implies that sharing , giving and not being self absorbed is the way to true happiness and a meaningful life that is meant to be shared.

If the person was talking about materialistic things then he means you shouldnt be selfish, this makes you "I" or just one person. if you we were to share with another, now it makes it "we".
