All businesses in a community help in some way. A foreign business is more likely to be a larger business such as auto dealership, bank, insurance, large retail merchant. Some ways they help are the obvious: providing jobs, paying taxes, sponsoring charities, "adopting" distressed schools with sporting equipment, textbooks, scholarships.
The list goes on. They are aware that their operations are being watched by people who would rather see their own country's business there. The question to ask is, if you have difficulty with a business because it is foreign, why not start your own business in competition and drive them out?
