Pros and cons?

Question:if pro is oposite of con, does that make progress opposite of congress?

Answers:
I have often enjoyed 'congress'. It does involve progress of a particular sort, and in a specific area. I leave you with the thought that opposites attract.
Good thought! Funny!

As prefixes, "pro" and "con" aren't really opposites, of course. "Pro-" means "forward" or "ahead" and "con-" means "together." The root of "gress" means "to step or walk." So "progress" is "to step forward" and "congress" is "to walk together." If "con-" could also mean "backwards" then you could say that "congress" meant "to walk backwards."
