What does the saying " A cow far away has long horns" mean?

Question:I heard an old lady say it and never understood it. It might be a bull though I dont remember. Either a cow or a bull.

Answers:
well ... well ... I think this saying is based on Brazilian saying that means "if you are traveling or if you are far away from home ... beware ... your wife/husband/boy/girlfriend .. whatever ... might be with another person.
Do you know why? cuz in Brazil if you have "long horns" means that you were betrayed by your husband or vice-verse.
Or if you are a "long horns" means that you are not "alone" in someone's life.
I think it's saying that a problem seems worse if you're not really dealing with it.
something to do with danger...thats what someone just said who i asked who lives here
Things always seem worse than they really are.
