In the form "...can't see the forest for the trees," there are numerous Internet usages, but no identification of the author. I have two good books of quotations at home. I will look there when I return, and if either is helpful, I'll post an additional comment here.

The best place to find works such as Musarion is usually Gutenberg, where I found Wieland, but not Musarion; however, I did find it eventually, and here is the relevant passage:

I have offset the two lines with the quotation. Think of the brownie points you get for citing an original author in German!
