Passages in The Maugham Book, "the Razor's Edge"?

Question:I read the book, and must choose 4-5 passages that are crucial to the book and pick one to write an essay. I don't know which passages to pick!!! please help me!

Answers:
It's not so much about finding passages that are crucial to the book as it is taking any passage and arguing that it is crucial. Ask yourself what you think the book is about, what fundamental messages it is trying to get across, have a flip back through it and pick out anything which resonates with you. The more you react to the words and feel an understanding of what Maugham was getting at (or what you get from it) the easier it will be for you to reason out an argument.

Good luck, and may you always study under teachers with open and receptive minds who are in it as much to learn from you as to instruct.
