What does "Good fences make good neighbors" mean to you?

Answers:
The Robert Frost poem from which this phrase was pulled is an ironic poem. Frost was actually saying the opposite of the title. Fences, for Frost, make poor neighbors. it means don't cross the line with your neighbors It means that a degree of separation is a good thing. I means that everyone needs a little privacy. Having healthy boundaries is always good for your mental health! Establishing boundaries with others helps create more harmonious co-existence. I know what is mine; you know what is yours. It means keep those pesky neighbors in their own yard. dont put your nose where it doesnt belong. if someone wanted you to know something, then they would tell you. Privacy, solitude, independence. A bit of Yankee isolationism. The American Indian didn't understand the concept at all. Minding your own business keeps things harmonious between people. The fence is figurative meaning it is not a real fence but a wall of privacy not to be breached. If I had a good fence I'd put my neighbor in it - that would be good! A fence marks a boundary, stands its ground, doesn't encroach.

(unless the neighbor encroaches their fence on you-lol!)

In funnier terms: A fence isn't nosey, doesn't mock or imitate, isn't loud noisey, messy or judgmental. It's all about creating healthy boundaries, whether actual walls or merely psychological boundaries. It means not butting in and getting over-entangled in your neighbors' private business. It also means not dragging your neighbors into your personal problems. It means distinguishing when it is appropriate to offer help to your neighbors and to ask for it from them, from when it would be innappropriate. It means you better have a damn good firewall to keep them out.l To me it means what it implies... Good fences, I guess that means one that is sturdy, without holes, and keeps out curiosity. Reminds me of something else... When you're buying a house, you're "buying" the neighbors too... I don't know... it's kind of disturbing. I don't like fences unless they are intended to keep a family pet from escaping or to keep a child from roaming out into the street, etc. Actually I'm regret that I started to answer this question, oh well... It means keep your distance. Being friendly is all good, but too close for comfort is a real thing. some privacy is always good to hav friendly relations with others.it basically helps in mutual co-existence. The same as "Hedges between keep a friendship green". Maybe it means that people will come around to look at the fence and you can meet people that way. if you have obnoxious neighbors and u put up a really large fence, they instanty become better neighbrs beacause you cant see them. it means exactly what were doing on the border of mexico it means that setting boundaries helps people get along. You need fences becaus.e people dont particularly like to set boundaries for themselves That Robert Frost had some nosy neighbors that he wanted to keep off his property!
