Question:This is a quote that seems to not be on many websites, and usually sites someone who probably repeated it, and not the original person. I have seen a 2 entries saying "Emerson." Maybe that is Ralph Waldo Emerson. That may not have even been the person.

It seems to be getting credited mostly to Pete Carril, the Princeton basketball coach (mostly because he used it as a title of a book and his motivational speeches) who claims to have learned the basic philosophy from his Spanish immigrant father. Emerson certainly sounds more plausible, though I couldn't find any reference for him and it may, indeed predate him, as well.
