What does this quote mean, you cant step in the same river twice each time it is different and so are you?

Hi Michelle. This is a great quote from Heraclitus about change. The river and you are constantly changing. The water flowing by in the river today is a different group of molecules than the ones that made up the river yesterday. So you can't step in "yesterday's river" because those water molecules are no longer there.

In the same way, your body is also constantly changing; breaking down and rebuilding tissues everyday using the food you eat, the water you drink and the air you breathe.

Best wishes.
Looking at the quote, I believe it is about how even though the location and the name of the river are the same, the water that you step in as different. You see: rivers are full of flowing water. It changes For example: you may step off a sandy bank into a river on minute and then step out. However, the next time you step into the river, even at the exact same spot, the water will be different from the first time.
it means that life is constantly moving, and you are constantly changing
Wow. Just wanted to say I really like the quote. I find it inspirational. And nice interpretations from those preceding me here.
Everything is impermanent; with every instant we are changing; so is everything that surrounds us; are you the same person that when you were a baby or a child?.Will you be the same in the future?.
