What does this quote mean?

Question:to gain that which is worth having it may b necessary to lose everything else

Answers:
It means that you may have to lose everything in order to get what is worth having......Example: You may have to give up things like expensive nights out, eating out everyday, shopping, to gain something more important like a new car. You have to give up certain things to get what you really want.
It probably means you can't always have what you want.
If you want valuable things you have to lose bad habits (things of little value).
I'd like to know what that's from. I can tell you what it means, but it would be easier for you to understand if you can give me a little more information.
If everything you owned were suddenly gone and you on the street had to start all over again, which items would you work hard on replacing first? Which would be the last ones on your mind?

By losing everything, you realize which items were actually worth having and which really didn't matter so much in the scheme of things.
if you want something extremely bad, you must be willing to lose all else to have it
To have something worth having, you may have to give up something you have now. No one can have everything. You have to decide what it is you want in your life and what you are willing to let go.
To gain something really important to you, you may have to lose a whole bunch of other stuff that matters to you. Like, a huge sacrafice for something really worth having.
when you find that one thing in life that is better than anything else you've even had, you fight for it, you sacrifice, and in the sacrafices you make, you rid your life of old less important things, but if the thing you want is truly amazing, you wont have any trouble sacrificing anything and everything for it. you risk it all because you know its going to be worth it.
