Of Mice and Men?

Question:What is the setting of Of Mice and Men, and what does it add to the story? Your Help will be appreciated. 11.Compare and contrast ranch life today with ranch life in the 1930’s.

Answers:
The setting is California ranch country.
The setting sets the tone and mood for the events to come, as well as the "backward" attitude toward the mentally handicapped.

I think ranch life today is more accepting of outsiders and therefore more open to the differences in people.
The setting is the ranch of corse where the two main characters worked. I think it compairs with George. The simple life, but very hard work. George being simple minded, but his life very hard. It adds to the justification of George being shot, almost as a humane thing that would be done on a farm if an animal was suffering.
