What did John Lennon mean when he said, "I dig a pony"?

Question:

Answers:
I think pony referred to his heroin addiction at the time. Heroin=Horse...
I has always heard it was slang for "enjoying" heroin (which is something beyond me)
"Dig a Pony" is a song by The Beatles, originally released on their 1970 album Let It Be, and later re-released on Let It Be... Naked in 2003. "Dig a Pony" was the second to last song played on the concert on the rooftop of Apple Studios in Savile Row, London on January 30, 1969.

John Lennon was the song's composer and singer but the song was credited to Lennon/McCartney. Lennon would later comment that he thought the song was "a piece of garbage," though he has shown similar scorn for many of his songs. It was written for his soon-to-be wife Yoko Ono, and featured a multitude of strange, seemingly nonsense phrases which were strung together, as well as the culmination of each verse, "All I want is you", aimed at Yoko.

The song was largely made up in the studio and the words made very little sense. SAt one point it was called 'Con a Lowry' (possibly a reference to an organ used in the stidio) but John changed it to Dig A Pony because, as he said "It's got to be D's and Ps." Similarly the line 'I do a road hog' started as 'I dig a skylight.' and then became 'I did a groundhog'. "It had to be rougher" John Argued "I don't care if skylight was prettier'" The chorus was taken from a separate song of John's written about Yoko called 'All I Want Isou.' The original title for this song before I Dig A Pony. In January 1969 John explained the secret of it's composition. "I just make it up as i go along." In September 1980 he labelled it as 'just another piece of garbage.'
