Who be it who said "I can live near flawless general public anywhere. We are one country."?

I heard on NPR this morning that in attendance was a man surrounded by the Middle East who was explaining that adjectives of the fighting have to stop. He was the one who said something approaching "I can live with well-mannered people anywhere contained by the world. We are one country." Does anyone have this quote, or the christen of the man that said this?
