Why the **** would I want a cake if I wasn't planning on eating it?

Question:Meaning of "Can't have your cake and eat it too"......
Ok if it means you can eat your cake but then you wont still have it afterwards... Why the **** would I want a cake if I wasn't planning on eating it? To nail to the wall so I could keep as a souvenier if I decided on "having" it as opposed to "eating" it?

So you could put it in a kiddie pool and have 2 hot, naked lesbians slip and slide around in all the icing and mushed up cake. And then you could lick it off of them. Oh wait...that is kinda like having your cake and eating it too...nevermind. I don't know the answer then.
i dont know sue the man who said it
Um... give it to your fat sisters. They'll understand......
Why the **** ask such a stupid question.. ?
Your a brain child, you already asked this.
I think its a stupid way of saying you cant get what you want and want more afterwards.
Um. Gosh. It's just a figure of speech. Perhaps you should eat a piece of cake.... chased by a happy pill prescribed by a nice mental health doctor.
There are a lot of sayings that make no sense when taken litrally but do convey a common sense message -

Once it's eaten you don't have it anymore
Are you really going to eat an entire cake at one sitting?
I like to prolong my gustatory experiences as long as possible, especially where chocolate cake is concerned!
Jeez, first of all, relax. The saying was originally "can't eat your cake and have it, too". People aren't sure how it got turned around. It just means you can't have things both ways when you're faced with an either/or decision.
i think that line was used back in the day when you didn't cake very often because it was exspensive, like back in the depression a lot of people didn't get cake for their birthdays, patatoes was more important, so when they did get their cake they weren't so eager to eat it all in a couple of days, but yet they wanted to eat it when it is fresh and soft and moist so their for they couldn;t save their cake and eat it too.
You would want the cake if you were saving it for later, though, right? That's how the expression works. You can't enjoy something right now and save it for later; you have to choose one or the other.
It means you want more then you can handle.
LOL maybe he was trying to make you feel dumb.....personally I would have made something uo directly to that to make him feel dumb
I straight up hate quotes that don't make sence like it. They are so incredibly stupid and a waste of my life.
I think it is a bad metaphor for wanting to have everything your way. I think it refers to having the good things in life (family, friends, etc) and taking them for granted or just using them to your own advantage.
