Help... simile.?

Question:“Far ahead of us four boys, looking like white flags on the endless green playing fields, crossed toward the tennis courts”
Since this is a simile, how does the boys compare to the white flags?

Answers:
in color and size, note distance, far ahead, suggests they look small and moving like the flags in the wind.
that doesn't really make sence.
well it might be saying (and im inferring that the boys have white colored skin) that with them standing in the tennis courts their white colored stands out like how a white flag stands out in a green field
People playing tennis often wear white clothing. So the boys must be wearing white clothes, which would stand out against the green fields.
