A lot of e-commerce websites require users to create accounts with them, passing on their personal details. The company could potentially sell this information on which is morally wrong and unethical and also illegal, however, the company could use the information for promotion sending advertisement emails and letters through the post which is not illegal but could be considered unethical as the user did not agree for their personal information to be used in this way. The company also will have to ensure that the information kept is secure to stay within the Data Protection Act and that all information kept is strictly for the companies purposes.
