Getting tested for a learning disorder?

Question:Ok when I was in public school I was tested with a reading/writing disabilty. When I went into high school they said I didn't need the extra help even though I stuggled all trought high school and had to stay an extra sememter just so I could gradute.

Now that I am in college I am having problems with my work because of my reading/writing disabilty. The college said for extra help I would need to get tested but I have no idea how to go about this? p.s. I am in Ontario.

Answers:
live in california, but see if you have a student services center, find out from a counselor exactly where you would go. you could use your old IEP that would document that you received services at one time. no matter though, for when you start college, they test you all over again. that is where you need to start. go through the process and see where you stand in regards to receiving services. i dont know about canada, but in the US, it is federally mandated that state schools go through this process. also, there are probably time limits for you to be aware of, here they need to have testing within a certain amount of time.
Go to a specialist and see what they have to say and then get a second and third opinion and a fourth if you need to.
Not sure about Canada, but in most colleges you have an advisor, who should be able to help you get the right tests. Also, try to get copies of the paperwork from when you were diagnosed with a disability in school.

As you can see, there are some colleges that will do the testing themselves. However, lucky you, living in Canada, you have national health care. You can opt for a neuropsychological evaluation. Call your nearest large university that does medical and/or psychological training. They will usually have someone who administers neuropsychs. The University of Ottawa is one place that does this.
