yes it will. He will learn self discipline & how to respond and take orders properly.
He will gain self respect, self reliance and how to work with a multitude of cultures as a group.
He will learn what the cost of freedom by the action of protecting his country.
If he's in High School, he will understand the regimentation and the need to work as a team better, but it won't help him get ahead as far as promotions.
If he's in college, encourage him to finish college and he can enlist as an officer.
yup, but if he didn't/doesn't take it - he's fine too - they'll kill most of who he is when he joins basic.
Army of One = nothing individual
-T.
Absolutely. ROTC + good AFOQT scores will give him preference over others for officer training school. I have seen ROTC candidates selected over other candidates even when they do not have as impressive test scores.
It depends on how serious he takes ROTC. If he doesn't try at all it won't. He does his best at it it should help him
A lot. He can double step a ladder with being an officer in the ROTC. And he could face the interviewers very well because of this training.
Yes ROTC will help him get into the airforce. ROTC is the best way to getinto militray when in school
Yes. I served with many a young person who went through ROTC. Real life experiences are always the best teacher, but fundamentaly, ROTC will help him be better prepared.
Air force is better. Its more safe than other military force. This will help. He would get the experience, He will have a military background which would help big time if he decides to take up Law enforcement because he served his country (a military background is good period), he would travel, and get benefits in the future. ROTC is a good program for to receive all of the above. The next time you see your son if he joins, he will be well disciplined, intelligent and very obedient he will learn how to improvise and use his resources to become successful (I know alot from what i wanted to know about the military) . I myself wanted to join the military to have the background and experience in the field to study law and have my career as an CIA. But I have an future in football..
Absolutely,
He will get to learn the regiment and it will qualify him for scholarships. He can also use this as a factor in his favor when applying for ROTC at a college or university. If he is taking ROTC in high school he clearly is planning on enter the service as an officer which means he will need to go to a college or university.
Yes, it will definitely help him. Being around the beginnings of the "brotherhood", learning the steps, learning basic rules of the military.that will all come in handy, should he join the military.
Good Luck to him, and to you as well. You sound like a great Mom to care enough to search for answers. My mom is going through the same thing...we just sent my brother of the MCRD San Diego, as he is about to become one of the few.
It's a hard thing for a Mom to do...to let go and watch her baby make choices in his own life. You're doing great!
Congrats to both of you.
ROTC will help to some extent. ROTC is a good way to build confidence in his self and make sure the a military life is something he wants. It is a good way to gain a sense of discipline and self.
To be honest, there are good Air Force officers and enlisted members who have had experience in ROTC and just as many who haven't had any experience.
In your sons military career, most of his experience that he will have, and chances for promotion, he will get while he is active duty, not while in ROTC.
That being said, ROTC will provide discipline and the correct frame of mind that not everyone had innately. ROTC is not a bad experience, but it doesn't necessarily mean that he will be a better airman or officer than someone else because of it.
do you mean jROTC in high school or ROTC in college? it also depends on if your son wants to join the enlisted ranks or the officer ranks.
if your son is in high school, taking jROTC will get him ahead once he finishes boot camp. he will get an automatic promotion to E-2 upon completion. in addition, it will help him learn the miltary culture, stresses, and skills needed to excel in training.
If he is accepted I think it will be a very rewarding experience for him. The type of training and other instruction he will receive is probably second to none. He seems to be moving in the right direction, and he has made the choice all on his own. If you have any apprehension then don't show it to him. Be proud of him because it sounds like you have much to be proud of and support him with gladness. I wish more youths would move in such a well respected and honorable direction. It would seem that your parenting has produced a young man with values worthy of appreciation. Have faith in God for him, and enjoy your son. Relax, let him grow in the power of goodness as he becomes a confident and strong positive contributor to mankind. Now rest your nerves because it will be alright...
If he's in high school/JROTC, tell him to NEVER tell anyone that he was in JROTC if he joins the military!!!!! You've had some great answers so far!
