4 years for a Bachelor's degree and teacher certification in Special Ed if your university has an undergraduate program in Special Education
If not, you may have to do a 5-year program and add certification after you get your Bachelor's degree
Other options include alternative certification after your degree.
Best of Luck! Good Special Education teachers are really needed nowadays!!
trust me you don't want to teach a special ed class...
they always turn in their papers to me with druel on them, they also make stupid one year old noises out loud out of nowhere, they also take forever to come to my desk, and i always have to program this one dinky-dink's machine cause it keeps breaking.
Hi, I got my BS in art education - 4 years; then got an MS in Guidance - 2 years (worked for five years as a HS counselor).
After raising my kids I went back to school again for special education and got a MS in special education at night over three years. Good luck - it's the best thing I ever did.
Hi. The length of time it takes to get a degree in special education depends on several factors, including:
1) The state/county you want to teach in
2) The amount of previous schooling you've had
3) The amount of previous experience that you've had
As with any degree, a really ambitious student can graduate with a college/university bachelor's degree in education/special education in as little as 3 years. (I've never heard of two years, but I suppose it is possible.)
My state allows me to teach without certification as long as I have a bachelor's degree in any field, and am pursuing a degree in special education. This will take me a total of 7 years of University schooling. I will have a BA in a non-related field, and a Masters of Education in Special Education.
Good luck!
