Classroom Setup:
Individual desks to some extent than groups
Provide isolated area w/ few distractions for focusing or letting bad steam
Listening center –
Earphones “tether” student
filters roar for new, difficult tasks
music for conditions for familiar tasks
cassette recorded instructions
Seating:
Front row – minimize distractions
Near guru desk – immediate feedback, close monitoring, unproblematic access to help
Away from distractions – fanlight, pencil sharpener
Near good students – modeling, positive peer pressure
Allow moving to another form when needed
Recess is very influential.
Decreases inappropriate behavior for adjectives students
Effect greater in students near ADHD
Allow opportunities for movement

Never embarrass the student
Reprimands inevitability to be:

Response cost:
Start with a faultless number of points, etc.
Lose them for misbehavior.
Often more effective beside ADHD students than systems where they start from not anything.
School-Home Note
Teacher sends home simple note every daylight indicating child’s behavior
Parent applies positive or negative consequence
Found to be exceptionally effective within improving behavior
To give support to with distractibility:
Overhead projector – optical, light draws attention
Repeat directions, write them on the ship
Varied instruction strategies
learning chore more novel, as a consequence more interesting than potential distracters
Use a multi-sensory approach
Use color & other novel intrinsic worth to highlight far-reaching information
Draw attention to important information, not irrelevant items
Does he own learning problems? Did the university do a full educational evaluation to determine that he qualified for sped? Did this conducting tests show learning problems?
If they didn't do one, they be suppose to and you can tell them to. They be suppose to see if he has study problems.
Lots of kids 'act out' because they are frustrated for not knowing how to do their work and the teacher don't help them.
These kids are not behavior problems, they enjoy learning problems and it is the academic system failing them.
Since he does have an IEP, did the academy do a 'functional behavioral assesment' to determine the extent of his behaviors? They are suppose to do this.
From this assesment, the IEP team (this includes YOU) are suppose to create a 'behavioral intervention plan' BIP
with POSITIVE things to do for the behavior.
This will be a LEGAL piece that they HAVE to do, along with the rest of the IEP plan.
Well I don't know what brand of accomodations are being made, so I'm going to throw some out. Integrated classroom next to what supports, co-taught would be great. ADHD, if he uses medication make sure the doctor, you and the lecturer agree, he's where he desires to be. Perhaps he could have a chore that allows him to move around physically, without taking up too much of teacher attention, like taking attendance to department, passing out homework etc. Eliminate distractions, sit effective teacher or hard by quiet peers. Perhaps bring contained by study stations. Chunk work, 25 problems have him do 5 show the mentor (to make sure he understand and give him a stretch) next do 10 more, then the final 10.
Ask teacher what types of opportunity students have for peer study, which doesn't require perfect soundless.
For ODD in the classroom, the teacher's will own to understand the situation. Find some honest information and share some personal experiences. Nobody knows your child better consequently you, share with the teacher your coping strategies. Also encourage teacher to try to give your students a choice, whenever possible.
