Assuming there are five answer choices per question, statistically you will come out even if you guess on all questions, since the odds are you will get four of every five questions wrong. For every set of five questions, you can expect to get one right. Four wrong answers, at a quarter point lost each, comes out to 1 negative point to counter the one point you would get from your one right answer in that set of five. So if you guessed at random on all the questions on the test, you would expect to score zero. But I assume you wouldn't be guessing on all the questions. If you can confidently eliminate at least one answer choice per question, statistically the odds are in your favor to guess, because the expected point value for your response is then greater than zero. For instance, if you know that one of the answer choices is incorrect, you are choosing between three wrong answers, each worth -0.25 for a total value of -0.75, and one correct answer, worth +1. Your expected value is then (-0.75 + 1)/4, which is 0.0625. Obviously you can't get that exact value on a single question, but if you continue over time guessing with these odds, you'll end up with more than zero points. Naturally, your expected value increases if you can eliminate more answer choices. However, if you truly have no idea on a question and all the answers seem equally plausible to you, it's best to leave it blank.
well if u think u might have the right answer then take a shot at it but if u think its more rong then right dont guess
i think dont waste your points you have worked hard to get. if you dont know the answer just leave it out...i did psychology got an A*, i think psychology had nothing to do with memorizing, its all about personal opinion...
It's just the first week of september. your exam won't be till november. go to the library and start reading, or do a research. you still have a lot of time. yeah you can guess and take the risk of 1/4 for each wrong answer. but then again, why guess wrong, when you can guess right?
Well that depends, I am sure that answers left blank after so many are considered to be wrong otherwise everyone would just leave it blank. So you have to be wise about it since usally you can't go back after you do a section or what not. So you have to wegit how wrong you feel not just I belive I will get this one wrong. Good luck either way.
I've taken that test...good luck! It's not as bad as most people say it is.
There are 5 possible answers if I remember right. If you can narrow it down to 3-4 possible answers, then your shot of getting it right makes it worth it. Consider this: if you answer three questions that you have narrowed down to 3 possible answers, you will likely get one right and two wrong. There is still a point advantage here. With four possibilities, you are even.
Moral of the story: If you can eliminate two answers, answer it for sure. If you can only eliminate one, use your gut. If you can't eliminate any, don't waste your time.
