And do you know where to purchase the books at a discount price?
Answers:
If you are looking for the highest score possible for a higher-tier college, I would recommend combining a strategy book to teach you ways to answer the questions and a book that offers excellent tests. Many companies, such as the Princeton Review, Barrons, and Kaplan, combine the two into a single book with strategies in the beginning and tests (normally about 2-4) in the back or on a separate CD. For people who want a good score, but not necessarily a great one (which is most people), this is the way to go.
For people who want to improve their scores as much as possible and do quite well, I would recommend the Kaplan 2400 book (best SAT strategy book EVER) and the Official SAT Study Guide offered by CollegeBoard (best book for tests because the questions come directly from the source of the tests themselves and there are about 7 or 8 of them). The Official SAT Study Guide does offer basic strategies in the front of the book, but Kaplan 2400 goes much more in depth about the hardest questions you'll encounter. The 2400 book, on the other hand, doesn't have full practice tests, but it has very useful drills with the hardest questions from the exam so that you'll get more used to them. Take a practice test in the CollegeBoard book first to see how you do, making sure to read back over the ones you missed. Then, read Kaplan 2400 so that you might discover better ways to solve the problems before tackling as many other practice tests as you can.
In general, it's better to go with the latest edition because many of the books from past years contain flaws that are fixed by more recent editions.
I normally like using amazon.com. It might not be the best place to get a discount, but it's often a few dollars cheaper than at the bookstore and offers customer reviews for most of its products so that you can see what other people think about what you're trying to buy.
Good luck, and don't worry about it too much!
For SAT, I would definitely recommend the Official SAT Study Guide, from College Board, because it the College Board is the maker of the test, and this accurately reflects what will be on the test. Of course, books from Princeton Review are pretty good too. Then there's Kaplan, Barrons,.
Where to purchase them...Try Border's or Barnes' and Noble. They should have them, but if they don't, you could try Amazon.com. sometimes, books are cheaper at amazon then they are at a bookstore.
