Question:What exactly is the point of wearing a hard hat when working from a high elevation, such as a scissor lift, a roof, scaffolding, etc? It seems very unlikely that anything could hit you on the head from up there, and if you fall, it probably wouldn't stay on your head and do you any good, right?

my husband's workmate just had an accident a few weeks ago. they're bricklayers and he fell from a scaffold and hit his head at the bottom. his hard hat did stay on all the way down and didn't come off until after impact. he was still injured and is still in pain but if not for his hard hat his skull most likely would have fractured and he'd be in much worse condition than he's in, perhaps not even alive. it could have fallen off during the fall but he was lucky. he used to complain about wearing it but not anymore.
