What is this pychological test called whats it for?

Question:I was just curious for a law enforcement job i had to take a written test the purpose was to identify patterns among the shapes and then answer what shape would come next according to the patten what is this test called and what are they measuring for?

Answers:
It could either be the WAIS-III or the TONI-3 (I think its in the 3rd edition, could be 2nd). Both are assessments of nonverbal intelligence and reasoning, visual processing, and perceptual abilities.
However, the WAIS-III has verbal and nonverbal intelligence components.
It sounds to me like an intelligence test (IQ).
