G'day,
First of all... congratulations on getting the offer from ECU.
Now... I know that there are plenty of international students who have successfully completed their study and got residency to stay and work in Australia.
The best thing for you is to contact the Dept. of immigration (www.immi.gov.au) when you are abt to finish your study for the latest information on what's required to get your residency. As the laws change very rapidly from time to time, only the staff of Dept Immigration that can best inform you of the latest info. It's no point of giving you an answer now, when we all know that it's gonna be obsolete in the next 6mths, or even earlier.
Citizenship can be gained after you maintained your residency visa for a number of years.
Hope this helps. Good luck :)

Dear Friend
In Australia there is no official ranking of Uni's qand hence For Migration purposes there will be no differentiating by the department.
It does not matter that whether you go to the main campus of a big city Uni or one of the many smaller campuses of a regional universities. There are many small campuses that are nothing but "visa Factories" for international students.
You have to really think why you are moving to a country overseas. Are you fully funded student or are you dependent on a finding job to fund your stay in Australia.
I can only say that it is not going to be an easy path. and hence do 2 things right at the start. Upon arrival seek an appointment with a Migration Consultant and seek for a paid interview and seek written consultancy from them. do you research befor settling on a consultant. a lot of consultants offer a first free meeting. use this time to evalutes the agent on how they answer your questions, do some questions get avoided etc.
In Australia more often it will be not what you know that will get you the job but how good you are at getting others to understand you, what sort of fit do you make in the existing environment. Do you work hard or are you what an Aussie would call a 'Bluddger' keep working hard to look for a job.. work for free as an intern when you arrive to get the hang of corporate australia. casual jobs are plenty to find you just need patience and networking.. really get to know the meaning of networking.. you may thank me later on...
