I just traveled with p2p to australia and new zealand and it was around 6000 dollars. it was totally worth it though. everything was taken care of money wise except for anything extra that you want to buy. You do more than just tourist attractions, you have a home stay, and learn things about the culture, government, etc...
i think its def worth it if you can afford it.
People to People is a good program if you have lots of money. To go on one of these trips it could cost you upwards of $4000 depending on the trip. My advise is to go through a foreign exchange. Also with a foreign exchange you get to experience the culture instead of just the tourist attractions.
I agree with the previous post.
If your granddaughter wants to go abroad, look into exchange student programs. There is more financial aid and scholarship monies available. She'll experience the language and culture, stay with a family, go to school, and live as a citizen of the country would.
People to People is really just a high-priced tourist trip.
