As Salaamu Alaikum bro. I'm not sure exactly what applied linguistics are but I'm gonna be taking a Teaching English as a Foreign Language course soon, Insha Allah. Then I'll be moving to Maghrib,(Morocco).
You should check out Columbia University Graduate Studies Program in New York City. And yes, most colleges here in the U.S. accept students coming in from other countries.
