OMG! I have the best idea for you. I was in a similar situation last year. I really needed a change and I wanted to get away from the US for a while. Bad break-up...I decided to take a TEFL course at TEFL Worldwide Prague. I had never been to Prague before or even thought about teaching English, but I thought...What the Heck! The course was really fun, and challenging. But I graduated and found a job pretty quick.

So now, it is almost 1 year later and I am still living in Prague and ABSOLUTELY loving my life here. This is the most amazing city. I totally heart Prague. I have met so many cool people, from all over. I have a few Czech friends, as well as some Americans thatI made friends with durring my TEFL course. We are like a little family now. The best part is that I have the chance to travel whenever I want. Prague is so central to everywhere that it is super cheap to travel.

I can honestly say this was the best decision I have ever made. I am a totally different person than I was when I got here...but for the better! I am living proof that if you want to do something, and just make up your mind to do it...it can be done.

GOOD LUCK! And...maybe I'll see you in Prague one day! :)

If you want more information about the school go to www.teflworldwideprague.com and check it out.
My sister went to mexico. You should go somewhere where you want to learn the language and culture, it is a wonderful experience. I would go to Spain or Italy.
I say backback around Europe!

There is so much to see and do. And you can bring your correspondence if you want to continue.

Or take the time off to clear your head and relax and have fun also.

I am sorry about your loss it is very hard to lose a family member. I did recently.

Have fun whatever you do!!
www.languageliaison.com just got back from their malaga spain trip awesome program highly recommend it, and you can take classes there for as long as you want get a europass and see all of europe!
You can just go off on your own and do this - fly to, say, London, stay in hostels, buy a Eurail pass and travel around Europe via train. Or you could do something more organised, as others have suggested. It's up to you.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Take a "gap year" from your studies (let the school know, first, so you don't mess that up) and travel, or do volunteer work, or a student exchange.

Since you're in nursing school, ask at the school if they know of any overseas nursing student exchange programs. Perhaps they can hook you up with a program where you'll end up doing some nursing work, and you'll be able to use that for your resume. If you're open to where you can work - anywhere, not just western Europe - then you should stand a good chance of getting placed. There are actually a lot of nursing student exchange programs out there. I bet your school can hook you up, and not only would that feed your travel bug, but it would look absolutely fabulous on your resume.

If that's not of interest, you can do volunteer work with an independent organisation, such as Habitat for Humanity, Americorps, or other groups. Again, your school may even have resources that can help you find such placements.
