I think I rather extensively answered that in one of your other questions. However, I'd like to add that you should go to a country with a different language. That is one of the great advantages to a year-long program, language immersion. That's one of the things that makes the investment pay off!
I think you should expect the unexpected. No doubt it will be a great experience. I am actually leaving in 4 weeks on a 6 month exchange program to Italy. I chose Italy because of the wonderful history and culture. I will be sure to let you know how it all goes. Do you know italian or spanish??
