Answers:
GRE score is not the only thing that effects your chances of getting into top universities in USA. Your Academics , Statement Of Purpose , Resume, Financial Documents and last but not least how early you apply. All These factors will effect your admission. so, if some says GRE is the only factor. Then he / she might be joking.
GRE score of 1300 would be ideal while 1400 would be the best bet !
anything that lies between 1100 to 1300 needs a very good Statement Of Purpose along with required Financial Documents.
GRE score below 1000 needs retaking GRE.
Note:
1. Without Financial Documents you will never get any kind of admission !
2. Reputed Universities like MIT ( ranked 1st in the world )accept only TOEFL score !
Caution :
Many people have a wrong perception about University selection. Some of us, think that the GRE score plays the primary role in getting an admit, but this is a wrong notion. GRE is just an aptitude test which has nothing to do with the your major and your field of study. Your undergrad score is the primary factor for deciding the universities. Most of the top universities give lot of importance to the RESEARCH done by the student in the field of study compared to undergrad and GRE / TOEFL scores. This is because of the fact that these universities want pioneers in the field rather than 80's & 90's as percentages in undergrad.
