Now, does anyone have the reality on what I should expect? I'm getting the idea that being an AC guy and teaching others to be AC guys is kind of like changing careers. If it does good then I personally think the inmates are worth my time and effort. What do you think of the whole changing careers thing?
Answers:
I think you are doing a very noble and honorable thing. You could really make a difference teaching a useful skill to prison inmates. I bet your teaching will encourage a lot of them to do something legitimate when they get out, becoming a productive member of society instead of going back to their old ways.
I definitely think you should go for it, there's no better feeling in the world than feeling like you've made a positive difference in another person's life.
Well, in a way it is changing careers but not completely. Instead of actually fixing AC's, you will be showing others how to do that. So in essence, your job will not have changed too much. It's like training someone who is new to the business that you work for.
As for the inmates, if you haven't been to jail, you must realize that they can have the "I don't give a F***, I'm just here to get extra credit" kinda attitude. So you may find it a little tough but once you learn what makes your class tick, you'll be on top of everything. And it's really awesome you'd want to help them. Everyone makes mistakes and the best thing we can do is help show them the other side of life while they pay for their actions, and help them gain the skills to be a productive member of socitey. Kudos to you. Go for it.
